Orleans Museums
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Museums in Orleans, MA, Massachusetts.
Home of the Orleans Historical Society, the Meeting House Museum is an excellent example of a Greek Revival structure and once functioned as the meeting house for the Universalist Church of Orleans. Today, visitors will find various exhibits about the history of Orleans, including historic photos, diaries, artwork, ships' logs and First Nations artifacts. The museum is open 10am to 1pm Thursday to Saturday during July and August, or by appointment.
The building that houses this technical museum was once connected to France via a cable laid across the Atlantic Ocean. The communications-themed exhibits illustrate a time when technical communications were in their infant stages. Prepared with the assistance of the Smithsonian, the displays are further enhanced by the staff's knowledge.
